6 weeks old!

And he's definitely smiling. You can see his eyes light up when he grins. Mom and Dad have to make super big smiles and laugh really hard to get him to smile. But it works more and more! They are just quick so it's hard to catch with the camera.

Your Baby At 6 Weeks:
Physical Development
With each passing day, your little one is growing more alert and responsive. By the end of this month, he'll be awake for as many as 10 hours a day, punctuated by one- to three-hour naps. Although it may seem to you as though he's "just lying there" for much of this time, in reality he is learning and practicing new skills virtually every waking minute.

One such skill is the development of head/neck coordination. By the end of this month, your formerly inert wonder child will be able to lift his head to a 45-degree angle while lying on his tummy, and hold it for at least a minute. He'll also hold his neck in line with the rest of his body for a few moments when you pick him up.

Has your baby smiled at you yet? If not, he will soon. At 6 weeks, about half of all babies can recognize their parents, and many of those babies are so delighted that they welcome Mom or Dad with an excited, gurgly grin. This is one of the first signs that your baby is developing an ability to socialize. In fact, it's called a "social smile," and it's one of the more emotionally gratifying milestones you'll see your baby reach.
